March 2011:
April 11, 2011:
This is going to be part one of a two-part update because we have a lot going on right now:
1. We are replacing all exterior doors, including the two large sliders in the front, and the old slider to the back porch
2. In order to accommodate these new doors, we need to change the floor plan of the house significantly.
3. At the end of this project, the den, foyer and dining room will no longer exist. The master bedroom will expand by four feet, the master bathroom will more than double in size, and the kitchen will nearly triple in size.
Here we are looking outside to the back porch via the old slider…
And here it is, re-framed to fit a standard 36″ door. Note that you can also see the master bathroom and bedroom through that wall frame. And since we had to move that wall anyway (in order to accomodate the new door) we decided to go ahead with the new floor plan…
In this picture you are standing in the old den, facing the front slider, looking through what used to be the kitchen…
Looking from the master bedroom doorway to the front doorway of the house.
Facing the master bathroom (reduced to cement block) and what remains of the master bedroom…
Here we are inside the new master bedroom. If you look at the ceiling you can see the room has been expanded about four feet, and we’ve added some hi-hats over where the dresser will go.
Left to do-
1. Install the new exterior doors
2. Finish dry-walling and painting the master bedroom
3. Finish master bathroom electric and finalize the master bath floorplan
