Office Floor

May 4, 2008

In the office, we decided to install a laminate wood floor. In the end, the decision came down to cost, quality, and ease of installation.

Installing laminate floor is pretty easy. Simply lay down the padding, and snap the floor together. The pieces are built with special groves so that they fit together without glue or nails.

The hardest part is cutting the pieces of flooring to fit the room. Closets are especially annoying.

All that remains is doors, trim, and window blinds.

Tile Windowsills

May 4, 2008

Here we see Mo with the tile saw.

And here she is applying adhesive.

And, while we were at it, we decided to tile the little step in the guest bedroom too.

After a little grout, the step looks great.

The windowsills came out great too.

Office

April 13, 2008

The office has been drywalled, textured and painted.

The wall plates have been stained to match the ceiling fan blades.

Over in the corner, the cat5e cables have been installed into a wall plate, creating a nice clean look.

Left to do:

  • Install floor (hardwood?)
  • Install closet door
  • Install bedroom door
  • Tile windowsills
  • Install blinds

The office is entering the home stretch. So close, I can taste it.

Office Closet

February 25, 2008

In our last adventure, we reversed a pair of his & hers closets from the office into the master bedroom.

The office doesn’t need two giant closets spanning an entire wall, however, it would be nice to have at least a small closet. Luckily there is another closet in the adjacent bathroom.

You know the drill- a) frame out the new closet, b) stick a dimmer switch in the wall and c) toss some hi-hats in the ceiling.

I was able to draw power from the outlet left of the (new) closet doorway. From the outlet to the switch, from the switch to the hi-hats. Always cut power first, yadda yadda yadda.

Back on the bathroom side, Maureen did an excellent job patching up the old doorway. We also removed the shower enclosure, so the room looks much bigger now (not much bigger though- its hard to get a good photo while in the guest bathroom).

Next weekend the guest bathroom will receive a thick fresh coat of mildew-resistant primer, however, we don’t want to remodel the guest bathroom until we finish the master…so this will have to do…for now.

The Home Office

June 21, 2007

This is the middle bedroom; I intend to turn it into a home office:

We’ve replaced the windows (just like the guest bedroom), but that’s all we’ve done so far.
