The idea for the gutters is a good one however you look at it !I think that you are looking at it a little to simple though .There are many things that you can do with the water from the gutters . The use of the water is not really a factor since it is easy to purify . 100 gallons is really not a lot when you begin to factor normal use . But you can use it for any thing that you use water for . Water the grass , Wash clothes ,cook ,drink etc, etc. Your Idea for the set up is correct , a pipe connecting the bottoms will equalize the fill , but you must have an escape for the air that is displaced by the water . If you do not you may cause the gutter to over flow and not fill the tanks . Also I would use 4 tanks . To get the water from the tanks all you would need is a shallow well pump , AND DO NOT FORGET A CHECK VALVE . Keep up the good work ! If you have any questions you can e-mail me . I have done construction most of my life .
